What can you expect from a day with Callum?
There are a number of ways to improve your driving. Callum will sit alongside you in the passenger seat during a trackday or test day and talk you through what to do via an intercom. He will also drive you around to show you the correct lines and for you to feel the limits of your car.
Having Callum in the car with you is a huge benefit for learning, but, ultimately you have to be able to consistently put in the lap times by yourself. Callum’s coaching methods focus on this as the goal, once he is happy that your technique is where it needs to be he will slowly phase out his ‘In car’ input.
Using Data Analysis equipment Callum will be able to set a lap time for comparison with your own laps. This will highlight exactly where you are losing time, it may be through subtle line differences, braking too early, braking too late and compromising your exit, and much, much more. Whatever the reason may be, the data analysis equipment will highlight it and Callum will be able to teach you how to rectify it.
Some of the techniques you will cover with Callum:
– Basic skills from correct seating position to car positioning approaching a corner.
– Racing lines- wet and dry lines, specific to each circuit.
– Heel and Toe technique, this is crucial to achieving a smooth down shift to maximise late braking.
– Braking technique, how to stop the car smoothly and efficiently.
– Correct throttle application and how this can affect the car’s handling.
– Correct steering input techniques and the affect it has on the handling.
– Vision, where you should be looking and why.
– Handling characteristics and how to control them, such as understeer and oversteer.
– The latest driving techniques such as trail braking.
– How to maximise the use of downforce in cars with Aero.
– Left foot braking in cars that allow it.
