Round Two - Valencia

The Galician driver Celso Miguez (Drivex), who makes his debut in the F3 class this season in the Championship organized by GT, won the second race of the European F3 Open, ahead of Bruno Méndez. With the points he achieved today at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo, the Campos Racing driver takes the lead of the Series. The second of this weekend's two races took place in front of 14,000 fans, which takes the total public of the three days up to 21,000.

In the second race of the European F3 Open the top six position of the grid were for the first six classified in the first race, but with the order inverted. Celso Míguez started from pole and took the lead in the first turn of a group closed by Adrián Campos Junior, winner of Saturday's first race. Campos, who was then in sixth position, crashed with Jesse Krohn when trying to overtake him and they were both forced to retire. Míguez started to detach himself from the rest of the group and only Bruno Méndez, one of the weekend's protagonists, was able to keep the pace. The Campos Racing driver was never further apart than half a second behind Míguez, but he was not a real threat for Drivex Celso Miguez, who crossed the finish line with a margin of little more than two tenths. The pace set by Mendez at the end of the race allowed him to set the fastest lap, with a time 1'32"135 at an average 156.488km/h. The third place was for the British driver of Emilio De Villota team, Jonathan Legris, who run alone during most of the race. With these results and the ones achieved on Saturday's race, the qualifying and the fastest laps of both races, Bruno Méndez is the first leader of the Series with 19 points, two more than Celso Míguez and three more than Adrián Campos Junior who lost a position due to his retirement.

Miguez made a fantastic debut for Drivex team in his first round of the European F3 Open. He was not nervous by Mendez pressure and kept the pace till the end. "In the second turn, Bruno was all over me, but I was cool and was able to defend from his attacks. Starting a season with a victory is very important, especially for the team. They did a great job, particularly after the electrical problems we had during the weekend. We arrived here nearly without testing and everything went well, and we improved during the three days. The best reward we could have was this victory", Míguez said. Bruno Mendez was also happy with his result, especially after starting the race in the last positions due to a problem with the brakes. "After starting 17, to finish the weekend in the lead is incredible, I could have not asked for more", stated Mendez who did not want to "risk too much to try and overtake Míguez, I tried several times, but our times were very similar and just by closing the door in the straights he was able to keep the first position". The next round of the European F3 Open will be on June 6 and 7 at the Circuito del Jarama (Madrid).
