No Reward At Spa

A hot and sultry Magny Cours played host to the seventh and eighth races of the European Open F3Championship on the second weekend in July, as Callum Macleod and Victor Correa looked forward to a strong showing in their Motul Team West-Tec Dallaras.

Callum was disappointed to qualify fourth although his drive to fifth which followed in the opening race pushed him to the top of the series standings as archrival Marco Barba stumbled. Victor made a great start but ran wide across the gravel which meant a recovery to fourth place in Copa was astrong drive in the circumstances.

An overnight engine change for Macleod showed immediate dividends as he jumped into the leadof Sunday's race at the start and stretched his legs into an early lead.

Having fought off a challenge from Kevin Ceccon, Callum led comfortably although a suspected slow puncture then pitched him into a wild slide at the last corner. While he could easily recover from this the following Fernandes was unsighted and ploughed into the back, and over the top, of the Englishman's car in a frightening incident which saw the end of Callum's race, with the back of his car heavily damaged.

These results now leave Macleod 11 points off the overall lead, although the team will be looking forward to the next races, at Brands Hatch, as the series makes its annual visit to the UK, after the summer break, in September.

Callum Macleod: We got a good result in the first race and things were going fine in the secondrace until I ran into a problem. We were still leading and easily going to finish either first or second, despite the suspected puncture and I don't know why he hit me - as he can't have been looking where he was going!

John Miller, Motul Team West-Tec: Callum drove well and lost a deserved win on Sunday but heis made of strong stuff and will bounce back in Brands Hatch, I have no doubt.
